Welcome to Step Ahead Academic Supports
Step Ahead is a network of professional educators who work closely with you and your child's teachers and mental health providers to develop and implement a customized academic plan for your child's needs.
All of our coaches are full-time teachers and education professionals with graduate degrees in their area of expertise and years of experience working with students. Most are certified in their content area as well as special education. Our coaches are competent and compassionate, qualified to encourage students of all needs to step into their full potential. |
What We Do
Executive Functioning CoachingOur coaches are well-versed in the particular startegies that help students with ADHD and other executive functioning challenges thrive inside and outside of the classroom. Coaches help build students' toolboxes of strategies, so that they can apply them independently.
Parental CommunicationRunning notes are taken during each session and emailed directly to parents, so that everyone is updated on the students progress in real-time. Daily tasks and goals are set for the week to improve student goal-monitoring and accountability.
Real-time Grade and Assignment MonitoringCoaches are experts in the learning platforms used for grade and assignment distribution. As all coaches are teachers themselves, they are specifically skilled in analyzing grades, patterns, and assignments. These observations are used to make ongoing adjustments to weekly plans.
|
Mental Health Provider CollaborationWith parental consent, coaches maintain regular communication with mental health providers. This allows coaches to help implement strategies as they relate to the student's academic work, as well as note any patterns or changes in academic behavior.
Customized Academic PlansUpon meeting, each student will be set up with a customized acadmic plan based on their needs. These plans may include academic contracts, goal monitoring charts and check-ins, once or twice weekly meetings, subject-area tutoring, etc.
Gradual-Relase Skill BuildingOur goal is to build students' academic skills to improve self-management, self-reliance, and self-regulation to the point that they no longer need our support. As students build independence, we gradually reduce the duration and frequency of sessions until the student is able to manage their academics without our support.

My daughter doesn't open easily to tutors, but Lindsey was unique. She was very engaging and knowledgeable of what was needed for my daughter, which kept her on track with her assignments. But most importantly, it helped her reach her goal at the end of the school year. The knowledge she shares is an eye opener for me. I am proud, happy and honored to have Lindsey as my daughter's tutor." - Parent of a Middle School Student
