What do we do?

Students typically work with coaches 1-2 times per week to begin. Sessions follow a consistent format, based on the student's customized academic plan. Sessions are crafted to ensure all of the student's academic needs are addressed and that students, parents, and other providers are 100% aware of all academic developments. With the notes provided at the end of each meeting, there is complete transparency about what is happening in school and in sessions. The breakdown below is an example of how a session might be structured.

A Typical Executive Functioning and Academic Skills Session

1. First 20 minutes
- Review study plan from previous week.
- Note which action items and goals were accomplished.
- Problem solve around incomplete action items.
- Reflect on study habits and routines from the previous week and how best to proceed.
2. Middle 20 minutes
- Student begins working on any incomplete work. Coach supervises.
- Coach checks all learning platforms and notes grades, missing work, updated assignment and assessment grades, and upcoming assignments.
- Coach helps student send emails to teachers, coaches, or case managers to request clarification or assistance.
- Discuss and reflect on updated grades.
3. Final 20 minutes
- Identify priorities for the week.
- Develop study strategies based on upcoming assessments.
- Locate, prioritize and develop a plan to use available resources to prepare for assessments.
- Identify goals for the week (bedtime, social time, phone use, etc.).
- Practice study strategies with upcoming assignments.
- Create weekly study plan with daily tasks from previously incomplete work, upcoming assignments, and upcoming assessments.
- Send session notes to student and guardians.

As sessions progress over time, students take on more of the responsibility of these tasks, eventually leading the sessions and asking the coach for guidance when needed. As students are able to do this more independently, we review the frequency of sessions until sessions are no longer needed. This may take some students a few months, while it may take longer for others.

Additional Subject Matter Tutoring

While the majority of our students come to us for executive functioning coaching, we also offer subject matter tutoring.

All of our coaches are experienced in creating and implementing curricula based on student-needs. Curricula can be developed to address IEP goals, learning deficits, or other learning objectives.

We are happy to develop a customized curriulum for your child's needs!
